Smashed Grapefruit Citrus Green Tea

An at-home, under 5 minute prep grapefruit tea that is a great alternative to my favorite teas from Asian boba and tea shops. This recipe makes 1 large tea, but I often drink it over 2 days.

Equipment

  • 1 large mason jar or small pitcher

Ingredients

  • 1 large grapefruit
  • 2-4 slices oranges or other citrus
  • 2 bags green tea I like Bigelow's lemon green tea
  • 1-2 tbsp honey or other sweetener, to taste
  • 1-2 tbsp honey grapefruit syrup optional, I don't use

Instructions

  • Cut your grapefruit into large cubes. I like to use a knife to cut off/peel, and I cut into 8-12 large cubes total.
  • Add your grapefruit to your large cup/mason jar/pitcher.
  • Use the back of a spoon or a muddler to smash your grapefruit.
  • Add your orange (or other citrus) slices.
  • Add hot boiling water until nearly full.
  • Add 2 tea bags. Let steep for at least 5 minutes. (Tabby Tip: I leave the tea bags in the drink while it cools for an hour usually. )
  • Let the tea cool for about 1 hour until just warm still. If your first time making, I recommend to taste and adjust with sweetener and add the honey grapefruit concentrate if desired/needed at this step while its still a little warm.
  • Chill in the fridge. (Tabby Tip: I like to chill overnight or at least 2 hours total)
  • Enjoy immediately, or serve over ice.
