This coconut kumquat drink has quickly become a favorite of mine! This recipe is inspired and based off of the “Kumquat Fresh Coco w/Aloe” drink at one of my favorite boba tea places – The Bep Teahouse in Houston. I didn’t use aloe in my version, instead replacing for coconut jelly. You can easily adjust to your taste and add your own mix ins too!
Jump to RecipeWhat I love about this Coconut Kumquat Drink
- It’s not a tea! While I love milk and fruit teas, this drink is caffeine free and requires no steeping. This also means I don’t have to add tons of ice or chill overnight for a cold refreshing drink.
- Easy to customize. I tried a few different combinations, and the one I am sharing today is my favorite. However, you can also pick up any coconut water or juice you can find or add in your own mix-ins like aloe or coconut gels!
- Quick to make. It took me less than 5 minutes to throw together. This is essential, especially with busy working or life schedules!
- Health Benefits. Kumquats are high in Vitamin C, in addition to other vitamins and health benefits. Sometimes I find them too tart to eat on their own, but they pair perfectly with this sweet drink and you can still eat the fruit after you finish! Coconut water (plain) is also good for hydration and has other nutrients. Although this is a sweetened drink, you can customize to have less sugar/be healthier!
- Cheaper/more accessible. This coconut kumquat drink is also a cheaper and more accessible option compared to buying a boba tea from a restaurant or drink place. It won’t completely replace it, but is a great alternative so you don’t have to go out all the time!
Where to buy the ingredients
I purchased all of the ingredients from an Asian, specifically Vietnamese, grocery store. More details and substitution items below!
- Coconut Juice – Coconut juice or water can be used. This is the brand I favor, but you can find variations at most grocery stores now! If you can’t find in the drink asile, check the International, Hispanic or Asian food sections.
- Mogu Mogu (Coconut Flavor, with Nata de Coco) – This coconut drink had coconut jellies, which is why it was my favorite. It is also sweeter than normal coconut juice or water. If you can’t find at a store, here is a link to the Amazon 6-pack. Keep in mind that the unit price is around $2.83/bottle on Amazon, but I paid less than $2 in store.
- Alternatively, you can skip this step, or replace with your own combination or drink! It might even be easier to find coconut jelly by itself in store, and you can use this + the syrup to sweeten the drink!
- Kumquats – In Texas, kumquats are most commonly found at Asian grocery stores or Farmer’s markets. Many families I know also have their own tree! Kumquats are in season from around December – March. They are packed with a sweet yet tart flavor. It won’t be exact same, but an alternative would be another citrus like orange.

Coconut Kumquat Drink
Inspired by one of my favorite teahouses, this is a quick, easy, and super refreshing drink!
Ingredients
- 1 can coconut juice or water (11.8 fl oz)
- 1 bottle Mogu Mogu coconut drink with nata de coco (10.82 fl oz)
- 6-10 kumquats (based on personal preference)
Instructions
- (Optional) Chill your drinks ahead of time in the fridge. I like to put them in as soon as I purchase so it's ready whenever I want to make.
- For each drink, pour equal parts of coconut juice and Mogu Mogu drink. I usually get 2 drinks out of this, but you can stretch to 3 with ice and other add-ins.
- Slice your kumquats in half and remove seeds.
- Squeeze kumquat halves into the drink before adding the whole fruit itself inside too. I recommend at least 3 kumquats per drink (6 halves), but have added up to 5 per drink before too!
- Add ice and any other mix-ins. Stir, adjust to taste, and enjoy!
